Pre-Charity Event

As most of you would know that Law and i have been arranging for a charity lunch event for some 40 old folks. The event was on 29 Apr and finally over! Haa..it has been a tiring 2-3 weeks for us. I didnt realise that so much work would be involved to organise such a simple lunch event.

First we have to raise funds and from there, to decide what to buy for the old folks, what games to play, what prices to give and what food to provide. From sourcing of suitable caterer to the stores that sells the cheapest provisions. We have spent almost every night for the past week or two to go from shops to shops to compare prices.
Thanks to all the generous soul out there, we have raised a total of $1,814, our of which, $1,019 was used to buy provision for 40 old folks and $601.50 goes to the cater food + rental of venue + rental of bus. The rest goes to the prizes for the games played.

Law and i with the help of Bernard bought all the provisions and packed it at my place.

The standard 1 pack - 1 pack of cream crackers, 1 pack of Lee Marie biscuits, 2 tins of condense milk, 1 tin of milo, 1 tin of Quakers Oats, 2 Tiger brand joint pain plasters, 1 tub of counterpain, 1 tub of toothpaste, 1 bottle of medicated oil, 1 bottle of snake powder and 1 tiger balm.

Took a pic of law packing the goodies while i take a break :P (Hey, i also did help to pack okie..)

Lastly, got to stack it nicely so that no one would trip over them.

Would update my blog on the actual event itself after Law upload the pics onto the internet.

PS: Thanks Xuehui for helping us in sourcing some of the goodies too.

I am officially being promoted to a higher rank a month ago. I am now the aunt of baby Estella...sounded so old... went to her full month celebration today. She is ssssoooo cute!! Weighing at 3.8kg at birth, baby Estella is not as soft as i tot she would be. Luckily for that, i can hold her better. Was so scare that i might dropped her or hold her in a wrong manner.

So cute right!

What is happening....

At my age, shouldn't i be experiencing more wedding dinners, house warming, baby full month instead of "death", especially of ppl of my age? Twice in less than a month is really too much. Received yet another shocking new last night from Cindy telling me that Xiaowei's husband passes away on Fri night. He was the chinese police coast guard who died in action, in the high speed chase ard Tuas area. It was in the straitstimes on Sunday. As i didnt read the papers on sun, i didnt get to know it until last night and its too late. He was cremented yesterday.

Xiaowei is my poly classmate who i went to uni with. Her wedding (in 2004) was the first among my frens. She is a soft spoken girl and love her hubby alot... They have a 11 mths old daughter. Felt so sad for her. She is only 28 and life ahead of her is a long and unimaginable one...

Life is so unexpected....No warnings, no signs....and it just happens....how are we to take it in stride.....
Dear Bro Y,

It has been 2 weeks since u left us. But it only seems like yesterday that we are still swimming together. Even though the number of times that i have met up with you could be counted with both hands, but our friendship was built mainly on msn isnt? I missed the regular pop up of your nick showing that you have log on and the "Yoz whats up" line... i missed our complaining sessions and advice giving sessions too.

Its true what BooBoo said, that its amazing how you could still affect us in a positive way even with your passing on. We start to treasure ppl around us and be more tolerance with each other. More effort and attentions are given to let them know that we love them.

Ans to her call if u hear her and help her pass over this terrible period. Find peace at where ever you are and peace will flow to her.

@~ Bags ~@

Bernard and Guo Guang would be opening an online shopping sites whereby they would sell bags that they have gotten overseas. Thus yesterday, Law and i went over to help them take pics of ALL the bags to be put up in their site. Seriously speaking, their bags are quite good and they are very professional. They even went to buy valvet cloth to use as backdrop.

Bernard trying to make the handle of the bags to stand.

Our photographer

Bernard with the black backdrop

Cant resist the temptation after going thru the 80+ bags and in the end i got myself 1.

It took us about 5 hrs+ to finish all the bags! After the whole photo taking episode, everyone was hungry and tired, thus we went to the ever famous hawker store near his place to eat chicken wings. The store was closed the previous few times that we went there. But luckily it was open yesterday and we dun need to find alternative source of food.

After dinner, Law fetched me to Boat Quay, afterwhich he went back to join Bernard and gang for a round of chit chatting. As it was Serene's bday, they held a mini celebration for her at Mini Pub. Haa, remind me next time if its my bday, never agree to celebrate it in a pub/disco or what-so-ever...cos your fren would never miss the chance of getting you drunk. Luckily for me, i have told them before hand that i couldnt drink much, thus most of my "forfeit" drinks are being deal with by serene and her colleagues (thanks guys for helping me drink) But of cos i am not the "zu jiao" here thus they are still willing to help me drink :P For the whole night, they are playing a game called 350, whereby you are suppose to shake 7 dices at 1 go. In each tries, if there is a 1 or 5, you are suppose to take the dices out and to reshake the rest. Dice with a pt of 1 = 100 and 5 = 50. The aim of the game is to get at least 350 pts before you can pass the dice to the next player. At the beginning of the game, a drink would be mixed by the first player. Thus him/her could decide how much chivas or green tea or ice to put into the cup. In the even that after you have "shake" a round of dices and no 1 or 5 came up, that means you loose and have to drink. And when u get 500 pts in your round of shaking, you can further add alcohol into the drink. They have set a new rule last night that in the event 7 5s shown up in the "shake", all suppose to drink 1 cup each!!! It sounds hard to achieve right, but this scenario has turned up quite a few times last night! Thus before long, Serene got real drunk and went to puke, leaving me with her colleagues. Luckily her colleagues are a fun bunch and they are not boring at all. :)

The "lucky" 7 of 5s

Law came to pick me up at ard 2am. Bernard and him had decided to go to Loyang to pray pray, thus i decided to tag along. This is my second time there. The first time was with Law's sec school frens. But can see Bernard knows more of such staffs than Law's sec school frens as he is able to tell us the sequence of praying the various gods in the template. Reached home ard 4am+....dead tired....

Oh ya, and in the afternoon, on our way to Bernard, we saw this motorist with a "weird" box attached to his end of motor.

If you click on the pic and look at the box, u can see there are altogether 7 dinosaurs attached to the box together with 2 yellow duckies in the middle and a few trees to decorate the surrounding!!! *faints*

A poem for my dear fren

To say goodbye's impossible forever,

And yet we must too soon exchange goodbyes.

No magnitude of love when someone dies

Can manage the immensity of never.

Yet even death cannot our friendship sever

Though you may rest somewhere beyond our sighs

And all the talk of afterlife be lies.

Eternity is our brief glimpse of ever.

Even as each breeze must alter time

And each unruly rock reshape the sea,

So love lasts beyond our consciousness.

Each pulse of life's a piece of the sublime,

A breath so full of grace it cannot be,

A wave that ripples endlessly through darkness.

You would always be in our heart

The past few days have been a blur for me. So many things have happened within such a short period of time. With my colleague leaving and me taking over some of his duties, it has added to my already very packed workload. I must finished the audit and finalising of 4 companies' accounts by 30 Jun!! But at least i manage to get 1 account out last friday. Other than work, something devastating has also happened. A dear fren of mine has left us forever on 28 Mar...

Its really very amazing how life works out...at one point of time we were swimming and having supper, discussing and joking about how we are going to decorate our houses in the future, but then just in a matter of half an hr or so after we parted, he is gone..forever...

It has been a hard period for his family, gf and frens during the past few days. I was at his wake everyday and you can judge from the no. of ppl turning up at his wake, what kind of person he is.

Its really sad and furious to see some mindless ppl giving bad comments in the forum over the accident. They didnt know anything about the accident and they also dunno him, so how could they made such hurtful remarks. For these mindless ppl out there, hoped that what they have commented wont happen to them in their life and thanks for all those who sent their well wishes. Lets just hope that this is the end of it and everyone can move on.

To bro Y, no matter where you are now, please bless your family, gf and buddies and hope that they would get over it soon.

Cafe Delmar

Went in to Sentosa with Serene today. Our main aim is to go explore Delmar. Heard that its quite a cool place to chill out. Its a beach pub unlike the rest. They have the usual beach chairs, but in additional to that, they have "beds" on the beach. When i say beds, i really mean beds. Its like a four poster bed with "curtains". They also have large cushion seats, swimming pool and jacuzzis.

What we didnt expect is that, its so packed even at 2pm on a sunday afternoon!! All their beach chairs and beds were fully booked. Cant believe that ppl actually called to reserve the beach chairs for sun tanning....tot only tables at resturants required bookings...duhz...so we ended up indoor.

The outside , The bar counter

The beds corner (inside). Those cushion seats on the outside required a min spending of $200 then u r allowed to seat there...Cant imagine how much it would cost to seat on these beds.

Since we were already in Sentosa, we settle inside the cafe and ordered some food. The food is quite expensive. Just a plate of nachos cost abt $8. Haa, even though we didnt get to sun tan, but we still manage to stay indoors and laze ard for abt 3hrs! Its a bliss too, to stay in the air con whereby its burning outside!!

Nachos and our drinks

Me and Serene

When to look for Law for dinner at ard 7pm. The last time i waited for him at TOS (Taste of Singapore), i sat outside and i was bitten by some super posionous mosquitos. The bite swell up and it itch like hell! Even after 2 weeks, the marks are still there! So this time round, i went inside and sat by the side. After half an hr of waiting, was starting to feel bored, thus started taking pics :P

The shop; Spice of Life, which is opposite TOS. Basically it sells local flavour paste such as satay sauces, curry paste, prawn crackers, "cha ye tan".

Me!

After an hr of waiting......

Can see Law in the background...

In the end, waited for like 1hr+. Haa Law seeing that i was so angry, brought me to Sky bar for a glass of Sky Cooler (on the house, ie. treated by Fendi lah...)

KDF

Guess what...today, i was "given" the honour of taking over a "very good" job from my colleague who would be leaving the company by end of Mar. Its a charity organisation called Kidney Dialysis Foundation. The company is a little like NKF but of a smaller scale. This arrow was shot so last min, i felt like telling my manager off! The APM (audit planning meeting) is tomorrow at 930am and the agenda for the meeting was not even drawn up yet. Furthermore i have to attend another meeting today so that leaves me with very little time to understand the company and to come up with the agenda...hai...really poor management skill....even if they wanna shoot arrow, should have done it earlier so that we have time to prepare for it.

Anyway, luckily my meeting didnt last as long as the previous one (which took us more than half a day!) , thus i still manage to work out the agenda by today. After going through last year's files, found that this could be quite an interesting job. The audit approach would be quite different from the audits that i have done before. Am looking forward to it :) However the timeline crashes with 3 of my other jobs which would be running concurrently. So i hope that i wont drown in another series of peak period in Apr~May....wish me luck!

My hobbies

One of my hobby, other than msning, blogging, shopping, gossiping etc, is reading. I like to read books and i am even suprise with myself for saying that...lol...cos when i was in school, my langauges sucks and my english for O'level is almost a gone case. Never would i ever think of or even admit to myself that i like to read. It has became a routine in my life to read before i sleep. Guess the need to read has intensified during my peak period. It simply gave me a little window to escape from the stressful real world and to be transported to where the author is going to bring me.

I like to read Reader Digest and non-fiction stories, such as the life of a real character. My love for non-fiction stories came about after i read the life story of this Japanese Evil Cult leader when i was in secondary school. He was very famous at that time whereby he created a huge stir in Japan. Cant remember his name, but it really left a very deep impression in me. Other titles which i have read and liked includes, Wild Swan, Memory of a Geishan, The Rape of Nanking and Father of Cambodia, which talked about the life of a youngl girl during war time in Cambodia and how she managed to pull through.

I used to only read horror stories when i was younger and they includes series from Fear Street, Goosebums and the Vampire series by Anne Rice. But as i grew older, i also begins to like to read fiction stories. My recent favourite authors include Leasly Pearse and Jodi Picoult, whereby i am also collecting their series.

The newest addition to my Leasly Pearse collection is Hope. Just got it over the weekend and cant wait to start on it. :)

Daphne gave me an interesting book called The Train Man recently. The story was being written in an online forum style, whereby storyline goes with the posting from the author. Its just like reading an internet forum. A very innovative way of writing and looks very interesting. Would let you guys know abt it after i have finished reading it.

A cosy gathering

Seems that from last year, me and my sec school fren would meet up during festive seasons like Christmas and CNY (of cos we would meet up as and when, but in a smaller group). This year's gathering was a little late (as we are aiming at CNY), but with the delay, there are more time to organise and coordinate and the turnout was much better! :)

We went to Thai Accent at Vivocity. As the store manager was Law's ex-colleague, we manage to get 20% discount. The food is quite ok and i particularly like their Curry Fried Rice.

Look at that long table of food!

After dinner, some of us went for second round at Villa Bali. Its a Balinese style chill out bar and has a very authentic atmosphere. Its being set in a laid back manner and is a good place for rest and relax. There are a few types of sitting area, from the normal tables and chairs to cosy couches and coffee tables. The one we chose was like a small hut whereby you need to take off your shoes and climb onto the platform. The platform is like a Ta-ta-mi, with large cushions and a small coffee table in the middle. However, the condition of sitting in a hut is that you need to spend at least $200. As there are 7 of us to split the bill, so its still quite affordable.

The stairway to our hut (plus part of Quentin's head..lol)

In order to spend that $200, we ordered a bottle of Midori. Its a melon flavour liquidur and it cost $150. The taste is sweet and its quite nice. At last i found a type of wine that is sweet! They also mentioned that dessert wine are sweet also...hmm..maybe next time can try that.

An unexpected day

Unexpected changes has been happening throughout the day. My original plan it to go to work to clear my Ascott Accounts and to meet JH and QY at cineleisure at night for movie; The Pursuit of Happiness. But then early in the morning, i received an email from my manager saying that another client of mine has brought forward their reporting deadline from 16 Mar to 9 Mar (this fri!), thus i need to arrange for a site visit and to clear off all the things. So, not doing of ascott today, but to clear off the other company first.

Then at abt 1150am, i suddenly felt the building shaking. A small tremble. But as my colleague was rubbing something, so i tot he was the one shaking the table. But a second or two later, i felt the building swaying! Its not trembling this time, but yes, its swaying. Soon, we were given orders to evacuate from the building. Its only when we reached the main lobby did we realise the seriousness of it. Its total chaos there! There are so many ppl and everyone seems so lost. The security guards started chasing ppl out of the building and we realised that the other buildings along Shenton Way has also did the same thing. The checking of building took a few hrs and we couldnt even get back to our office by 2pm. Thus my company declared half day off and we were to go back and get our things and to leave the office premises asap (yes, its that serious..lol). The shake was due to Earthquake at Sumatera in Indonesia measuring 6.3! No wonder we can feel the tremble. While i am happy that we got this unexpected half day off, but on the other hand, i felt sad for the victims.

As i am meeting JH and QY at night in Orchard and not wanting to go home and come out again. I went to TOS to look for Law. So second plan of the day : To stay at TOS to continue my work till 6pm and to meet JH at HF at 630pm. But alas, Law said he wanna go Bo Tian to deliever the food that we bought the other day. So again change of plan. This time : to leave TOS at 530pm and to make it back in Orchard by 7pm.

Bo Tian is located at Chim Bee Road and is a home for the aged whereby they housed approximately 20+ old folks (free of charge). They also collect donated food items, repack them and distribute them to old folks in the poorer neighbour. Packing is done every sat and sun and distribution is done every Wed and Fri night. They also have free vegetatrain food on every first and fifteen of the lunar calendar. All packing and distribution of food stuffs are done by volunteers. Thus if anyone is interested, can go there to help out. For more information, can click here.

We got them some rice, biscuits, bee hoon and canned food

When we reached Cineleisure, Law decided to have dinner before gg home. Since he is already at the cinema, i felt so bad to let him go home alone while we go for our movie. And as god had realised that, he helped me! There is one unoccupied seat beside the 3 that i have booked online. So its fate lah har...lol....thus in the end, he joined us for the movie. Sorry JH and QY that i did not inform u guys earlier tat Law would be joining. But as u guys has asked me to ask him along the night before, so i guess u all wont mind right :P Anyway, its a nice and touching movie. Espcecially the part whereby Will Smith slept in the "cave" (toilet) with his son and he used his leg to prevent the person from opening the toilet door! I can really felt how lost and desperate he was at that time. Also at another scene, whereby his son dropped his only toy and Will Smith keep dragging him away to catch the bus. I really felt like slapping him! Overall, its a must see movie!

Fishy Tale

Met up with Jovis last night. Went to Fish & Co for dinner and guess wat? We saw Huang Yiliang (that TCS actor). Seems a bit stuck up to me. Anyway, dinner was great! And we order a glass of freeze each, but its only when it came, then we realise how big it is!!

Mermaid Freeze (the size is almost like one pine of beer!!) But lucky its nice...

Fish n Chips!! Yummy!!!

Been a while since i last met up with Jovis. Haa..she is now Mrs Loh. We chatted, complained and discussed abt our goals in life. Thank gal for all the advices you have given me. I will heed them! My piece of advice for you too: Dont take it too hard about what ppl say. In the end, its still your choice. So, stick to your choice and be proud of it! :)
